Will Pallone and Pascrell Condemn Corzine?

    By Eric Sedler | April 26, 2008

As I posted yesterday, Governor Jon Corzine committed pay-to-play by awarding a $2 million contract to an out-of state agency who had at least two board members (the chairwoman and her husband) that are good friends with Corzine and big time Democratic donors.

So here’s the question of the week:
Will Congressmen Frank Pallone and Bill Pascrell Condemn Jon Corzine?

The reason I ask this is because Congressmen Pallone and Pascrell condemned US Attorney Chris Christie big time when he awarded a federal monitoring contract to his former boss, John Ashcroft. Pallone and Pascrell were highly critical of the contract and even got themselves a congressional hearing for Ashcroft on the federal monitor process, despite the fact that not one penny of taxpayer money was paying for the contract. A corrupt company that just happened to have a parent company owned by big time Democratic fundraisers, is the one paying all the money for Ashcroft’s monitoring contract.

So now Congressmen Pallone and Pascrell have a chance to prove they weren’t just playing partisan attack dogs for the Democrats in New Jersey tired of being busted by Christie. They can prove that they really do care about how contracts are awarded by criticizing and condemning Governor Corzine for his awarding of a taxpayer funded $2 million contract to the NYU Child Study Center. The study center’s board includes Corzine himself and good friends of his who donate heavily to state and national Democrats.

Although there were other bids for the contract given to the NYU Child Study Center, state officials had latitude to award the contract to the organization they deem best. That porcess is not the same as a public bidding process, which essentially makes it a no-bid contract. Not to mention, the NYU bid was the only out of state bid.

To add yet another reason why Pallone and Pascrell should be fair and criticize Corzine, the contract he gave to his friends is actually costing the state taxpayers $2 million, while the contract Christie gave to Ashcroft didn’t cost the taxpayers a cent.

Will Congressmen Pallone and Pascrell prove they truly stand up for the taxpayers of New Jersey by criticizing and condemning Jon Corzine just as much as they ripped US Attorney Christie for the monitoring contract he gave to Ashcroft?

Somehow, I seriously doubt they will, especially considering the two buddies of Corzine on the board of Study Center have donated to Congressman Pallone in the past.

Eric, I can take a shot at answering this question for you on behalf of Mr. Pallone by basing the response on another scenario.

Monmouth Park Racetrack (horse racing) is responsible for pollution in the Branchport Creek in Long Branch. That pollution has now spread throughout the Shrewsbury River and our tax money is spent (through the NJ DEP) on repeated water testing all along the river (I believe its 13 test locations, might be more) and this has been the case since at least July 2006 when Long Branch (Pallone’s hometown) Health Department posted signs at my (as a resident of Long Branch) tax expense alerting the public to the pollution.

Mr. Pallone likes to pretend he is Mr. Environment so shouldn’t you expect Mr. Pallone to make some calls about this just as you would expect him to call out Corzine on this latest issue?

Well, you see, Monmouth Park is owned by the NJSEA whose CEO is George Zoffinger. You can read a press release from 2004 which seems to show that Pallone is indeed in contact with Mr. Zoffinger here: ehttp://www.house.gov/list/press/nj06_pallone/pr_jan20_monmouth_park.html

so surely these two talk and surely if Mr. Pallone cared about the environment, he could contact Mr. Z and work for us, and the environment.

You can then read back a little father and find this ( http://www.nj.com/statehouse/ledger/index.ssf?/news/mcgreevey/stories/20040813sl_mcg_codey.html ) :

“In 2002, Codey and McGreevey butted heads over who should run the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority. Codey wanted his longtime friend Michael Rowe, the former Nets president. McGreevey, however, pushed for George Zoffinger, a longtime ally of John Lynch.

McGreevey and Lynch won. But Codey ultimately got something, too.

When Zoffinger set out to change the way New Jersey runs horse racing, Codey gave his blessing for a price: a law giving the Senate president power to appoint a member of the sports authority’s board. ”

So it seems that the NJSEA, which controls Monmouth Park, which pollutes the river that Mr. Environment pretends to care so much about, is basically an agency running on our tax money that is controlled by Pallone’s own Democrat party.

So to answer your question by using the example of the NJSEA, Monmouth Park and a river that Mr. Environment has the political connections and power to clean-up, I would suggest that Mr. Pallone will play politics, make bogus claims and continue to do nothing which is the same thing he’s been doing for 20 years.

My apologies if you were hoping for a short and sweet “No. Mr. Pallone will keep his mouth shut like a good ol’ boy.”

They’ll probably make the typical, hypocritical excuse that Corzine is on the state level and that they are on the federal level and therefore, only deal with federal issues so they will not get involved.

New Jersey Dems love using that excuse to no end.
